Evaluation of Energy Consumption Pattern in Rice Processing Using Taguchi and Artificial Neural Network Approaches CIGR Journal
SANUSI, Mayowa Saheed; Akinoso, Rahman.
This study was designed to evaluate and model the impacts of processing parameters (steaming time, soaking time, paddy moisture content and soaking temperature) on the energy consumption of five rice varieties (NERICA 8, FARO 52, FARO 61, FARO 60 and FARO 44). Energy consumption in the cleaning, soaking, steaming, drying, dehusking, polishing and grading operations were estimated by fitting data on labour, fuel and electricity consumption, time and machine efficiency into standard equations to determine total energy consumption. The energy consumptions were separately modelled using Taguchi and Artificial Neural Network (ANN) techniques for each rice variety. The accuracy of models was determined using the coefficient of determination (R2) and Mean Square...

Genotype selection and addition of fertilizer increases grain yield in upland rice in Suriname Acta Amazonica
NASCENTE,Adriano Stephan; KROMOCARDI,Ruby.
ABSTRACT The upland rice farmers in Suriname use local varieties and low level technologies in the field. As a result, the upland rice grain yield is low, at about 1 000 kg ha-1. Our objective was to evaluate the use of upland rice cultivars from Suriname and Brazil, and the effect of nitrogen, N, phosphorus, P, and potassium, K, fertilizers on cultivation variables. We undertook four field trials in the Victoria Area, in the Brokopondo District, using a randomized block design each with four replications. The most productive rice varieties were BRS Esmeralda (grain yield 2 903 kg ha-1) and BRS Sertaneja (2 802 kg ha-1). The highest grain yield of 2 620 kg ha-1 was achieved with a top dressing application of 76.41 kg N ha-1 20 days after sowing. For P, the...

Vegetative and reproductive development of Costa Rican weedy rice compared with commercial rice (Oryza sativa) Planta Daninha
Sánchez-Olquín,E.; Arrieta-Espinoza,G.; Espinoza Esquivel,A.M..
The variability in the chronology of the vegetative and reproductive development of weedy rice complex has been little studied. However, a field trial was established to study the timing of growth stages of sixteen weedy rice morphotypes and five rice varieties of Costa Rica. Weedy rice presented a wide range of variation for all descriptors among and within morphotypes. Weedy rice was taller than the rice varieties during vegetative phase and showed a growth increase of 14-23 cm every two weeks. Six morphotypes emerged earlier than commercial rice varieties, but no differences where found between samples for the time required for starting tillering. Early emergence of weedy rice morphotypes was not associated with early flowering, thus no correlation was...

High variation occurs due to climate changes includes low rainfall and uncertain distribution pattern. This affects rice production system. Farmers currently adjust their production system in order to minimize risks of crop losses. This study aims to develop the most suitable cultural practices and chemical fertilizer application for delayed transplanting crop. The adjusted production system to deal with the climate change includes a choice of varieties, cultural practices, water management, and nutrient management. The results from the farmers' interview at the beginning of the project indicated that most farmers faced the problem related to insufficient amount of water for the whole cropping season, late rainfall, dry spell or even drought problem. The...

การศึกษาเปรียบเทียบกลุ่มสาร Acylated steryl glucosides ในข้าวกล้องและข้าวกล้อง และความสัมพันธ์กับสีของข้าว Thai Agricultural

Acylated Steryl Glucosides (ASGs) are unsaponified matters that are ubiquitously distributed in edible plant sources, for example barley, maize and brown rice. ASGs in pre-germinated brown rice have reported to improve insulin activity and blood glucose control mechanisms in the diabetic condition through the activation of insulin like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) and increasing of IGF-1 production. Recently, the medical studies confirm that dietary intake of brown and pre-germinated brown rice is useful for alleviating symptoms of both diabetes and pre-diabetes. To improve the functional dietary intake of Thai rice, identification of ASGs in seven varieties, namely: Khao Dawk Mali 105, PTT1, RD31, Sang Yod, RD6, Niaw Dam Chum Pae and Niaw Dam Maw, brown and...

ความสัมพันธ์ของฤทธิ์ต้านอนุมูลอิสระกับปริมาณ Tocopherol และ gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA) ในข้าวกล้องและข้าวกล้องงอก Thai Agricultural
Pakinee Akkaravessapong; Suganya Wongpornchai; Sunanta Wongpiyachon; Kitsada Pitija; Angsutorn Wasusun; Panawan Suttiarporn.
Rice contains several kinds of bio-functional components. In this study, γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) and Tocopherol, or Vitamin E were identified and their relationships to antioxidant activity using DPPH assay of both brown and pre germinated Thai rice varieties were studied. GABA are one of the two inhibitory neurotransmitters which make the neuron resistant to stimulation by excitatory neurotransmitters and inhibitor of some cancer cells activity whereas Tocopherol, or Vitamin E, which acts as antioxidant and improve blood cholesterol. Identification of GABA and Tocopherol in both brown and pre-germinated brown rice grown from different locations were conducted in eleven varieties, namely: Khao Dawk Mali 105, PTT1, CN1, RD31, Sang yod, RD6, Hom...

Secondary data collection from the Department of Agricultural Extenion and simple field survey were basic methodology of this research. The objective of the study was to evaluate the deepwater rice area and trend of this production system in Thailand. The research found that in 2012 The deepwater rice covered an area of 388,977 rai (6.25 rai equal to 1 hectare) scatter in 46 provinces. The top five provinces of deepwater rice production area were Prachin Buri, Nakhon Nayok, Pra Nakorn Si Ayutthaya, Chaiyaphum and Nakhon Ratchasima covering and area of 110,509; 60,652; 55,367; 43,175; and 37,057 rai, respectively. The most favorable rice...
